Public Policy

IPMA-HR’s government affairs and advocacy program has a long history of promoting public-sector employment and professionalism by supporting legislation, regulations and judicial decisions that foster a strong public sector workforce.

IPMA-HR Philosophy: To support laws that enhance public employment and assist public sector HR in accomplishing their goals. To oppose legislation that has a negative impact on public employment and public budgets.

Advocacy Work

When new policy issues arise, IPMA-HR staff and the membership determine the appropriate position for the association. Policy stances are published on our Web site and made available in our publications. Many positions are long-standing.

Available Resources Include

The Washington Update which is updated regularly to reflect what is going on in Congress and regulatory agencies that affect HR Professionals. Issues include jobs bills, FMLA, ADA, FLSA and many more.

The Supreme Court Update which includes summaries of recent cases considered by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Advocacy pages include links to recent letters, testimony and comments submitted to members of Congress, and executive agencies. These also provide sample documents for members and others wishing to contact their representatives in Washington DC.
