Our Next Chief Human Resources Officer
The City of Madison is looking for our next Chief Human Resources Officer – someone dedicated to change management and process improvement to benefit our employees.  This is an important leadership position responsible for advancing the City’s goals in a creative and thoughtful way. High level goals: include setting and implementing the vision for our approach to recruitment, hiring, retention and equity; Citywide communication initiatives; and developing and maintaining a diverse workforce. As the Chief Human Resources Officer, you will lead a strong staff team that over the next year will be charged with updating our Civil Service policies and procedures as well as the Equity Analysis of our position study process. We seek a visionary individual ready to lead this agency into the future.

The work of the Human Resources (HR) department impacts the lives of our approximately 3,000 employees every day.  We are looking for someone to bring their leadership, expertise, and a spirit of innovation to help shape the future of Madison.  This person will have the opportunity to improve employee engagement, build collaboration across agencies, and be a part of our innovative workforce development programs. This position reports to the Mayor, and works collaboratively with the senior leadership team. This work requires a commitment to upholding the City’s mission, values and service promise, including a strong commitment to racial and gender equity.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of human resources senior management experience. 
  • Bachelor's degree    
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP,  IPMA-CP, or IPMA-SCP certification preferred.
