The City of Santa Monica is looking for a superstar to join their superstar Human Resources team as the Human Resources Deputy Director – Special Projects.  If you are an energetic, dynamic and self-driven professional leader with a proven track record of affecting positive and sustainable change through using data and process improvement strategies to drive organizational change, this position may be a perfect fit. 

The City of Santa Monica is one of the most recognized communities and desirable destinations to live and work.  The city is not interested in the status quo with Santa Monica being known around the country to be on the forefront of local government best practices regarding performance management, data driven decision making and sustainability.  Santa Monica is a complex full-service City with a population of 93,000, nearly 2300 employees with 11 bargaining units and a $737.9 million FY2017-18 operating budget.  The Human Resources Department has a budget of $5 million and 27 staff members. 

 The City of Santa Monica’s Chief People Officer is looking for a “right hand” who will be charged with the oversight of four areas: technical, financial, operational, and strategic.  The new position will be immediately engaged with assisting with the modernization of the HR department for City of Santa Monica.  The department has prioritized creating a department of the future and is seeking an individual that “thinks outside of the box,” is adept at data analytics and implements the industry’s best practices.

Job Requirements

Candidates must possess a BA/BS degree with a master’s degree being preferred, and a minimum of five years’ recent experience in the development and management of large projects, programs or policy initiatives for a business or municipal government.  Experience with budget preparation/management and at least two years of supervising experienced staff is essential.
