Long Beach (pop 470,000) is located on the Pacific coast just south of Los Angeles and adjacent to Orange County, spanning more than 51 square miles. The seventh-largest city in California and one of the most diverse in the nation, Long Beach is a full-service Charter City with 5,581 staff.  The Human Resources Department operates with support of 45.5 FTE.

The salary range for this position goes up to $231,750. Salary supplemented by competitive benefits. 

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a progressive human resource professional with strong leadership skills.  He/she will be a collaborative and responsive problem solver with a history of innovating and designing creative and fiscally prudent human capital initiatives. This leader will have broad local government personnel management experience and a record of successfully leading large-scale change. In-depth knowledge of current laws and a sophisticated understanding of effective labor relations will also be expected. A Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration or relevant discipline is required.  A Master’s degree will be considered favorably.
