Under general direction of the Human Resources Director or Assistant Human Resources Director, and, on behalf of the County Executive Officer (CEO), supervises the Human Resources Benefits section, and performs a variety of related staff work as required. The incumbent will be responsible for planning and implementing the future direction and composition of the County's benefits programs. The incumbent also administers and directs existing County-wide employee insurance and benefit programs; medical reimbursement, employee assistance, leave of absence program, and wellness programs; and performs related duties as assigned.

We are seeking a seasoned manager who leads by example, utilizes collaboration as a strength, and values the development of their staff. Further, we are seeking a technologically savvy candidate who is well versed in the technical aspects of benefits administration and will aggressively work with insurance brokers to obtain the best rates for a variety of products. The ideal candidate will possess significant professional-level human resources benefits and management experience and a graduate degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

Extensive experience in the administration of benefits programs which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
 
The required knowledge, skills, and abilities also can be obtained by completion of a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business, Finance or a related field with five (5) or more years of administrative experience in Benefits programs with at least two (2) year of supervision experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience managing health, welfare, and/or retirement benefits
Excellent written communication skills must be demonstrated in the completion of the employment application and supplemental questionnaire

HIGHLY DESIRED

  • Benefits systems -Oracle/Peoplesoft
  • Experience administering deferred compensation programs
  • Experience administering leave of absences 
  • Experience managing wellness and/or work life programs
