We are currently in the process of creating a selection test for Office of Fire Marshal/Fire Prevention positions. This would include positions such as Fire Marshal, Deputy Fire Marshal, Fire Inspector, Fire/Arson Investigator, Fire Prevention Officer, Code Enforcement Office, Premise Officer, and other similar positions.

To create useful tests for these positions, we need agencies to participate in the test development process. The first two steps in the development of this test are described below. Important Note: Agencies may participate in one or both of the remaining phases.

Phase 1: Complete Job Analysis Questionnaire

In this phase, job incumbents are needed to complete a survey to identify the most important tasks and knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics (KSAPs) required to perform their job successfully. The questionnaire takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. All participants who complete a Job Analysis Questionnaire will be entered in our raffle to win a $500 prize.

Phase 2: Review Test Item Content 

In the second phase, job incumbents, their supervisors, and other staff (training staff, etc.) are asked to review the test questions that we’ve developed to measure the important KSAPs determined in Stage 1. Participants are needed to review the relevancy and accuracy of the test questions. WE would need one or two reviewers for each position we decide to create a test for.

Agencies participating in Stage 1 or Stage 2 will receive a discount toward a future IPMA-HR assessment product purchase. Agencies participating in both stages of the project will receive an even bigger discount toward an IPMA-HR assessment product purchase.
