How is POSIS different from other police officer oral exam products being offered?
We believe POSIS is the only product offered which offers a complete, ready-to-use-out-of-the-box product, including video training and all materials needed for administration and scoring. We also believe it is the best-documented, most thoroughly researched oral exam system offered.
Can POSIS be used for other jobs besides Police Officer?
POSIS is designed only for the entry-level police officer position. It cannot be used for promotional titles such as Corporal or Sergeant, or for other law enforcement titles such as Correction Officer. If your entry level police officer job uses a different title such as Deputy Sheriff or Constable, and the job is that of a police officer, then POSIS is likely to be appropriate.
What do I need to run my oral exam besides the POSIS package?
All test material, training materials, panelist materials and forms are provided. You will have to supply the staff – the coordinator, trainer, panelists, and monitors – and the facilities. POSIS does offer detailed guidance on how to plan, organize and administer the process.
How many panelists will we need to conduct our process?
We recommend three panelists on each panel, and if yours is a large process you many need more than one panel. Using POSIS, a single panel can examine about 12-15 candidates per day. You will have to decide how many panels and how many testing days are right for your process.
What is the video training component all about?
It is a PowerPoint presentation along with a training manual for whoever is assigned to do the panelist training. It includes video vignettes of mock candidates, to give the panelists practice in rating and scoring before the interview process begins.

POSIS was actually designed for this type of process and all of the research presented in the technical report involves multi-panel, multi-day processes.
I’m a consultant. Can I order POSIS for me to use with my clients?
Yes and no. POSIS is a rental product which is only provided to testing agencies which have a Test Security Agreement on file with IPMA-HR. The testing agency must place the order and is responsible for its security and return.
As a consultant to that agency, you may use the materials, provide the panelist training and oversee the administration, but the materials must remain under the agency’s control.
Can IPMA-HR Assessment Products provide an on-site consultant for this process?

Is POSIS validated?
POSIS has undergone thorough validation, described in our Technical Report. The test content is linked to a national job analysis. The questions have all been rated by police experts and reviewed by testing specialists, and every question has been rated high in importance and appropriate to ask of candidates even if they have no prior police experience.
Is POSIS reliable?
POSIS includes many steps designed to ensure that the panelists (interviewers) agree closely with one another. The purpose of each question is thoroughly explained, and a series of benchmarks is included with each question to help gauge the quality of the candidate’s answers. Video training and practice helps to assure that the panelists understand the system and the questions. Step-by-step procedures are included to help get your panelists to agree closely with one another.
Does POSIS have adverse impact on minority or female candidates?
Based on studies involving almost 1000 candidates, POSIS did not have adverse impact on minority or female candidates. These studies are detailed in the technical report.
Who needs to place this order?
Test products will only be shipped to the attention of an individual who has signed IPMA-HR’s TSA. In the event a TSA is out-of-date at the time of your order, you will need to submit a new agreement before your order can be processed.

Which Form is right for me?
Please consult the description of each form, found in the Inspection Copy Packet, to decide which one will give you the most accurate assessment of your candidates. Both forms assess the same KSAPs found in IPMA-HR’s 2011 national job analysis; however certain questions may be more applicable in regard to your jurisdiction.
When do I need to place my order?
We suggest placing your order at the same time or soon after your written test order, whether using an IPMA-HR test or not. Placing the POSIS order 4-6 weeks before you plan to administer the process will give your administrator enough time to get familiar with the system.
If you are thinking of placing your order ahead of time, but do not yet know for certain how many candidates and/or panelists you are expecting; we have a solution. You can place an order for the core of the system, including the Administrator's and Panelist Trainer's Manuals, which will allow you staff to start reading about and planning the implementation of the process. You will be charged a flat $975 fee for this starter package. When you know the exact candidate and panelist numbers, you can contact us and order the additional materials.
How many materials will I need?
The number of materials will depend on a few factors. First, is the number of panelists you expect to use for your administration of POSIS. We strongly recommend the use of three panelists comprising each panel, which interviews the candidate, one at a time. Depending on the number of panels you have operating, we suggest having one or two alternate panelists available at all times, to handle emergencies or "breaks" for other panelists.
Second, is the number of candidates you expect to participate in the process. As stated above, you may not know the final number when you are placing the initial order, in which case we will break it into two parts.
We DO provide all manuals, booklets, and forms you will need for the administration of this system, thus sooner or later we will need both the number of panelists and number of candidates.
Can I purchase POSIS outright?
No. Like other IPMA-HR tests, POSIS is a rental product and cannot be purchased. We do this to protect all our clients by keeping the product as secure as possible.
