The IPMA-HR Chapter & Region Leadership Conference is an annual invite-only conference for IPMA-HR’s 42 Chapters and 4 Region Presidents and President-Elects/Vice President.
The purpose of the conference is to bring together IPMA-HR’s chapter & region leaders to share best practices, inspire each other and learn new tools to help run the chapters more effectively and engage their membership.
This year’s event was held virtually on Saturday August 28, 2021. Thirty-six volunteer leaders gathered together to hear an energizing keynote from Cory Mosley, a speaker and consultant. From July 2020 until July 2021, Cory served as president of NSA Virginia, the local chapter affiliate of the National Speakers Association. He led the association through massive changes, including a new dues model, sponsorship overhaul, and updates their technology and member engagement policies. For his effort, he was voted Member of the Year by his peers. In his keynote address he shared what he learned during that time including how to develop ideas to stay relevant for chapters, grow revenue and keep members engaged. A volunteer leader exclaimed, “Cory Mosley was motivating and lit the fire!”
The agenda also included a workshop with Melynn Sight, who partners with volunteer leaders to make positive change and to help them reach their strategic goals. For this session, she focused on how to determine your member’s value proposition.
Throughout the meeting, IPMA-HR leaders were given opportunities to connect with each other, network, learn from experts, and acquire knowledge and skills to move their organizations forward.
Participants made excellent use of virtual lounges before and after the official events to connect and discuss challenges and solutions for regions and chapters of various sizes. One attendee called the event a “good balance of info and networking opportunities.”
During opening remarks, Pam Dollard welcomed everyone and thanked them for their dedication to their roles as leaders in the IPMA-HR association. IPMA-HR Executive Director Cara Woodson Welch introduced participants to an updated Chapter Handbook, highlighted other new resources and described Chapter and Region profiles now available to facilitate update and reporting.
